Elevator History

During the 19th century, some mines and factories used cargo elevators to transport coal and other necessary materials. The first elevators that did not put people’s safety at risk were built in the mid-19th century. By this turn, the buildings in the cities were made up to five or six floors at the height where people could climb up the stairs.

These safe elevators were working with steam power. In these elevators, the steam machine turned a drum, and the rope that pulled the elevator cab was hugging on the drum just like it was in the reel of fish. Elisha Graves Otis invented the elevator.
